Seven Tepees In Transition

Everyone’s journey is individual, and in June 2021, Anthony Mickens, the Executive

Director of Seven Tepees Youth Program, advised the Board of Directors that his

journey is calling him to new paths.

Anthony has resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2021.

Seven Tepees is grateful for the more than 100% effort Anthony brought to his work.

His dedication to the organization has been steadfast. He has been a devoted

ambassador for Seven Tepees, seeking new allies and strengthening partnerships.

His optimism has infused his response to every challenge. As many organizations

discovered, the pandemic itself presented an array of unprecedented difficulties.

Anthony, along with the Tepees organization,

strove to do their best in responding to each of them.

As his tenure draws to a close, Anthony has been assisting the Board in moving

forward, managing both an orderly transition and providing valuable support to the

Board. Seven Tepees intends to pick up where Anthony's path ends and continue to

provide services to our community with a new vigor and energy that reflects our

understanding of the evolving needs and challenges faced post-pandemic by the youth

we serve. The Board wishes Anthony the very best in his new endeavors, and we hope that

the new doors he opens lead to fulfillment and success.

BLACK LIVES MATTER

The Seven Tepees Youth Program stands in solidarity with those in our community and those across the country who were angered, disgusted and grieved by the recent murder of George Floyd.  We believe that Black Lives Matter! George Floyd’s murder was not an isolated incident. Police brutality has been systematically inflicted on Black men and women over countless years in our nation’s history and it can not be tolerated in any form.  The violence against and dehumanization of Black lives in our society is an ongoing evil that must be stopped.

For 25 years the Seven Tepees community has lived by these seven values:  Peace, Respect, Safety, Commitment, Positivity, Accountability and Justice.

We must come together as individuals, a community, and a society and demand that things change!  We must strive for racial equality and justice at all levels of society, government and institutions. We must hold our local governments, national government and other decision makers accountable and demand justice for our Black community members.

The road moving forward will not be easy, and the conversations will be challenging, but we are ready to follow in the courageous footsteps of the brave people in the streets demanding justice and fight alongside them to build an unequivocally anti-racist and more equitable society.

Seven Tepees Covid-19 Update

Dear Seven Tepees Community,

The well being of our students, families, staff, volunteers and community partners is our top priority.   We have therefore decided that we will be suspending our regular programming for students and closing our Learning Center through the end of spring break.  This means we will not reopen for programming for students till at least April 6th, 2020. This was a very difficult decision to make. However, given the rapidly changing situation with the Covid-19 outbreak we want to err on the side of abundant caution.

This does not mean you are losing contact with Seven Tepees.  Our goal is to stay connected with all of our students and families throughout the period that our Learning Center is closed.  Our case managers will be in contact with Tepees students and families via text and phone over the next few weeks to provide updates, advice and support.  If you need help or support from Tepees please do not hesitate to contact your case manager or call our main office.

If you are a Tepees student, family member, staff member or volunteer please follow these steps:

To help prevent the spread of germs:

  • Wash hands frequently and/or use hand sanitizer

  • Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth

  • Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, using a tissue, sleeve or facemask

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Get a flu shot (recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older)

Stay in contact and keep us informed:

  • During the period of closure of the Learning Center communication is very important.  If you or a family member gets sick or have the following symptoms: a cold, fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc. please call your case manager or the Learning Center (415-522-1550) to report that you are sick.  Leave a message, if you have to. The messages will be checked each day the Learning Center is closed and we will follow-up with you as soon as possible.

Thanks for your understanding and support. We will continue to monitor the SF Health Department and SFUSD health recommendations and will provide updates as needed.

Sincerely,

Anthony Mickens

Seven Tepees Executive Director

Sincermante,

Anthony Mickens

Director Ejecutivo de Seven Tepees
